(1) On my plan to help the homeless and dampen some of the sub-mortgage pain, here is an article that goes into further detail about the opacity of the entire MBS/CDO/ABS system. It's going to be a long painful slog to get to the bottom of this housing mess.
(2) This article on cutting corporate taxation just pisses me off. Not because I inherently have a problem with cutting corporate taxation. I don't - mostly because the new LLC and LP structures already allow you to escape the double taxation, and it seems gravely unfair that there are corporations being treated differently for no other reason than the date of their founding. However, the solution is not to shift the taxation to an unprogressive petrol tax (which is something that should be taxed in addition to, not instead of corporations tax), but to pursue a different kind of corporations tax - like a shareholders tax. More on this another time, afterall, this is just link love. Here is a very good (though not comprehensive, from my POV) rebuttal to the Mankiw piece.
(3) I took a cheapness quiz at Time Out NY (H/T Escape Brooklyn) and scored 18, which apparently means:
Finally! A sane person. You’re careful with your money, but never cheap. You know that what goes around comes around and that a thank-you goes a long way.
You deserve a syndicated column!National exposure. Finally a writer that writes and rights.
